Pyrenees Visitor Tips

The Pyrenees — Enjoy an Australian Feast for the Senses

An easy 2-hour scenic drive from Melbourne, the Pyrenees is the perfect weekend getaway.

As well as being home to over 44 beautiful vineyards and other regional produce, including quality lamb, olives, capers and preserves, it is also home to a rich, vibrant community of artists, from painters and mosaic sculptors to photographers, musicians, poets and opera singers.

We love the Pyrenees and to ensure that you do too during your next visit, here are some of our insider tips.

Taltarni's Visitor Tips

  • Stop in for an espresso, meal and/or a homemade 321 Dry Apple Cider at 321 Learmonth on your way through Learmonth. The walls are adorned with fantastic regional artworks, all available for sale.
  • Enjoy an absolutely delicious lunch or dinner (or both), accompanied by Pyrenees wines, at The Avoca. It is a grand old Victorian goldfields pub that has been lovingly renovated by Ian and Ally, the friendly, knowledgeable and talented owners and operators.
  • Sample a local wine or two at Hedon Farm within the original homestead of the oldest winery in the Pyrenees.
  • View a large collection of 19th, 20th and 21st Century Australian art, including late 1800s impressionist works by noted Australian artists, at McMurray Galleries.
  • Stay in one of Moonbeam Cottages' unique mud brick cottages that are privately nestled amongst the Pyrenees' wineries. Be sure to check out their onsite Rainbow Gallery.
  • Grab a bottle of sparkling and a cheese platter from Taltarni's Cellar Door and have a picnic up at Taltarni's Lookout.
  • Have a beer at the Moonambel Pub, an Australian country pub from a bygone era.
  • Visit a few of the fabulous cellar doors!
  • Don't go home without one of Sanne Malkaer's stunning mosaic vases and/or sculptures, available at Taltarni's Cellar Door or by contacting Sanne directly on 03 5467 2205.

Escape and enjoy an Australian feast for the senses, from the beautiful flora and fauna to premium food and wine and creative visual arts.
