Region: Victoria, Pyrenees (100%)
Variety: Sangiovese (100%)
Taltarni has a strong international reputation for its premium red
wines which reflect the unique terroir of the
Pyrenees. Sangiovese is originally from the Chianti region in Italy and
translates as "Blood of Jove (Jupiter)". It typically displays firm dry
tannins, rich cherry flavours and savoury, dried leaf characters. These
varietal characters closely match the regional Pyrenees red wine
characters of spicy, savoury fruit flavours with firm tannins.
Crafted exclusively from Estate grown fruit, the grapes were
destemmed and crushed to open fermenters. The wine was fermented
on skins for 17 days and hand plunged daily. It was then basket
pressed to 3—5 yr old French barriques where it went through
malolactic fermentation. The wine was racked and returned to oak
where it was aged for 12 months prior to bottling.
Winemaker Comments
This wine is a deep, ruby red colour. It has a moderately lifted nose
with aromas of liquorice, morello cherry complemented by a soft,
savoury bay leaf notes. These flavours carry through to the palate
where they are complemented by long, firm tannins and soft spicy oak.
Extending Taltarni's long tradition of French winemakers, winemaker
Loïc Le Calvez creates an exceptional and diverse portfolio of award
winning wines that showcase excellence and distinctively express the
true varietal and regional characteristics.

"One of the panelists remarked that this wine3 is bringing Sangiovese to a reserve level of quality. Not for thefaint-hearted, it's another big wine that has the fruit tojustify the oak. Super dry but mouth-watering nonetheless.
