Region: Tasmania 100%
Variety: Sauvignon Blanc 100%
The 2011 Lalla Gully Sauvignon Blanc is the first crop from our
new vineyard planted in Tea Tree, in Tasmania's Coal Valley.
The wine captures the unique terroir, with fresh, bright fruit
flavours and balanced, natural acidity.
2011 was a cool growing season, and the Coal Valley received
average rainfall, despite it being a wet season in other areas. This
has enabled the grapes to have a long, slow ripening season and
accumulate fruit flavour whilst retaining natural acidity.
The grapes were hand-picked, pressed and cold settled, then cool
fermented in stainless steel with two different yeast strains. After
fermentation the wine was stirred on lees for four months. The
wine was then stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.
Winemaker Comments
This wine is a very pale lemon colour, with bright green tints. The
nose is extremely typical of Tasmanian Sauvignon Blanc, with
lime, star jasmine and snow pea notes. On the palate, the acidity
is balanced by bright, sweet fruit and a touch of residual sugar
from the fermentation.
Enjoy this wine now with soft cheeses, grilled asparagus or
barbequed seafood dishes.
