The 2007 Taltarni Late Harvest Viognier is a limited release wine,
made in small quantities. Viognier is well suited to making dessert
style wines as the flavours naturally in the grapes (orange, apricot,
ginger, jasmine) are also common descriptors for late harvest wines.
The Viognier grapes were sourced entirely from our Taltarni vineyard
in the Pyrenees. The 2007 vintage was warm and extremely dry. This
gave a long ripening period for the Viognier to develop sugar, without
any disease risk.
The harvested grapes were crushed, pressed and fermented in
stainless steel. The wine was then aged in old French oak barrels for
seven months prior to stabilisation, filtration and bottling.
Winemaker Comments
This is a soft, medium bodied and sweetness dessert wine. The nose
shows soft apricot and jasmine characters with the French oak adding
soft, subtle spiciness.
The palate is smooth and balanced with orange blossom, stone fruit
and white pepper notes. The wine finishes cleanly and is not cloying,
making it pleasant to drink and an ideal match for soft cheese and
fruit, especially citrus, based desserts.
