A Visionary Beginning
The first wine from Taltarni Vineyards was released in 1977; immediate success followed with the wine collecting gold at the Royal Melbourne Show – an early acknowledgment of the potential of the vineyard. In 1979, Taltarni’s Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded the Los Angeles Times International Best Red Wine, ahead of world greats.
At 37° latitude, the Pyrenees is in a perfect climatic band for the production of high-quality grapes. The rich soils of red clay, quartz and sandy loam create ideal growing conditions and the cool nights and warm days allow for slow ripening.
Taltarni Vineyard and Winery was founded on the principles of individuality, independence and expression, which still guide us today. Combining old-world traditions with innovative new-world techniques, Taltarni produces a diverse range of high-calibre still red and white wines, and méthode-traditionnelle crafted sparklings.
Remaining steadfast in our commitment to crafting refined wines of elegance and balance, Taltarni’s portfolio continues to be a reflective expression of the varietal and terroir from which our wines are born.
Taltarni Vineyards & Winery is rated in the top 9.8% of wineries in Australia, recognised by James Halliday as a 5-Star winery with a 8 wines scoring above 94 points in the 2020 Halliday Wine Companion. Our Signature Labels
Taltarni’s signature labels feature a 17th century cartouche , a custom-designed medallion that was worn around the necks of ancient civilisations to protect against loss of name and identity. Worn on each bottle, Taltarni’s cartouche presents and protects the identity of the wine.
The design on the cartouche, which was a feature of Taltarni’s very first label in 1977, depicts Saint Peter holding the keys to the Kingdom – a metaphor, in this case, for key moments in life.
Sustainability
Dedicated to practices that care for the land and reduce our environmental footprint, this can be seen most evidently in Taltarni’s approach to sustainability and viticulture. By preserving the natural value of the land, we’re able to produce brighter grapes with balanced acidity that truly reflects the terroir. The combination of many environmental initiatives, along with the skills and expertise of our winemaking and vineyard teams, has resulted in the production of renowned, award-winning wines.
Our sustainability philosophy is what guides our entire viticulture and wine making processes at Taltarni. We have a great responsibility to the environment around us, and we’re committed to using the industry’s leading and most innovative sustainability practices and techniques to ensure we protect our soil, air and water, while conserving energy.
